Unzen, Shimabara
Unzen, a highland resort, is Japan's first national park where you can enjoy beautiful nature all year round, from cherry blossoms in spring to azaleas, fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and frost. There are over 30 "Unzen Jigoku" (Unzen Hell) hot springs, which were also known as the stage for Christian martyrdom torture during the Edo period. Shimabara Castle, with its white tower standing out in the greenery, is the center of the Christian oppression and is recommended to visit the "Christian Museum" and "Local Museum" on the premises.

Kanzarashi

Kanzarashi is a local dish that has been selected as a 100-year food as a local cuisine that has been passed down since the Edo period, as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' FY2021 Food Culture Promotion Project. It is a popular sweet that is enjoyed by pouring special honey made from honey and sugar on chilled shiratama, which is made from water from the springs in Shimabara. The chewy and soft shiratama has a sweetness of rice that can be felt as you chew.
